Why Crap Hair Club?

I've not been hairdressing for that long. But ever since I started my first actual job as a stylist in 2019 (thank you Mitchell Wilson in Laundry Sheffield for hiring me even tho I couldn’t really cut hair) - I’ve been mixing products together in my hand to get the right texture, mixing them with water to resurrect curls - and always suggesting different ways to use products at home. Now I can share with you a legit endorsed bottle of sauce and tub of paste that I really think might make you smile. Importantly paired with tutorials and links to all my socials where I can help you answer questions, get inspo and occasionally meet up with a little community of messy-haired rascals. :’)

About Jen

Some info about me and my career if you ever wondered:

I am from Cornwall, and moved to the BIG city of PLYMOUTH when I was 17 to train in hairdressing after being at a loss of what to do with myself (infinitely thankful to Kate - also a hairstylist and my cousin for suggesting I give it a go). Iceni, the salon I trained in, quietly specialised in curly hair, it wouldn’t shout about it online, the clients just always kinda had curly hair yano? Word of mouth type place, it’s all I ever knew. You can imagine my surprise when working elsewhere, people weren’t embracing the variety of textures like I was used to, lots of smooooth blow dries or clients with wavy/curly hair leaving with it half wet.

Anyway, I got really fucking busy in Sheffield kinda fast! So much so that I thought hey maybe I’ll try this in London, thanks to my growing Tiktok, I started doing guest spots on Mondays and Tuesdays in The Social, I was fully booked every week, with 9 clients a day. Mitchell asked me one day if I was going to move to London. I said I didn’t want to not work at Laundry, it felt so freeing to me to work there - I was able to build my own brand and client base online while working somewhere really homely and supportive where other people could do the same thing. He suggested opening another in London. So I moved down to London and Kate and I opened the Stroud Green shop in 2022  (Mitch built it with his hands). It’s been really hard work, I had to learn to be tidy and communicate and stuff, there’s definitely points where we have felt way out of our depths and wondered what the fuck we are doing. So naturally we are now opening a second London shop in Bethnal Green. Due to open at the end of November (Mitch is building it with his hands).

I’m so excited to see where this goes, I’ve never had an end game and I was only supposed to do hair to fill the void- now my void is bursting at the seams with hair and it’s all thanks to you lot <3 Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
